MDA has extended the final planting date for cover crop acres until December 1 due to wet weather conditions in parts of the state. There are limitations on these acres planted after November 12. MDA has announced an extension of the planting deadline for the Cover Crop program. The last date to plant is November 12. Only wheat, rye, triticale, and speltz are eligible species and the only planting methods are no-till, conventional, broadcast-light tillage, and vertical tillage. The last reporting date is also extended until November 19.
The cover crop planting period has 3 weeks remaining. If you have already planted cover crop in prior to the first planting tier, you should report that to your cover crop staff member. August 15 begins the planting window for the MACS cover crop program. Approval letters are being sent out to applicants as they are reviewed by the MACS Office. If you are aerial seeding, remember to get your applicator to sign and date the FSA maps for any fields that are aerial seeded.
The MACS Cover Crop program is now accepting applications. You may drop off completed applications at the district office of mail them to us. They must be postmarked by July 17 to be accepted.
