Eleven teams from Frederick County high schools competed in the 2019 Frederick County Envirothon held at Cunningham Falls State Park on April 23. The teams worked through exercises in aquatics, forestry, wildlife, and soils plus this year’s Fifth Issue, Agriculture and the Environment: Knowledge and technology to feed the world. After totaling the scores, Catoctin High School’s Puma Concolor team emerged as the high scoring team while earning the high score in two individual categories. The Catoctin team will represent Frederick County in the State Envirothon to be held June 19-20 at St. Mary’s College in St. Mary’s City.
Brunswick High School finished as the second place team and was high team in the Aquatics category. The Winglings team from Urbana High School placed third.
Contestants, coaches, and officials were treated to Rocky’s Pizza and ice cream donated by South Mountain Creamery while the scores were being tabulated. A big thank you to all our sponsors for helping to underwrite the contest and to the officials who supervised the competition.
